What is Hypnosis?
Fortunately, the US government has given us a definition that is very useful. According to the US government, hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor of the mind (that part that compares new information with old information already stored in the subconscious mind) and acceptance of acceptable selective thinking. Hypnosis allows you to bypass this critical factor, so that new ideas and thinking can go right into the inner mind and affect your limiting beliefs and your habits so you can make positive changes right away.
Can anyone be Hypnotized?
In the past it was be believed that only 20% of the population could be hypnotized. Hypnotists have since discovered that those numbers where due to Hypnotist lacking training, proper technique, or a misunderstanding of the hypnotic phenomenon. When you choose to do a session all you need is the ability to follow very easy instructions and you can achieve a level of hypnosis necessary to do all the work and get the changes you want.
Do you sleep when you are in Hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is not sleep. You’ll be awake and aware. Hypnotists know that the state of hypnosis is not sleep, but may use the word sleep. It’s just a fast and understood way of saying "go deeply relaxed quickly".
What does Hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis isn’t a feeling. It is a state of mind. Here is one example: Have you ever known something, but then suddenly you got a deeper understanding of it than ever before? Most people call that a light bulb going off in their mind moment. That’s how it is when you are in hypnosis. You can have access to information that you are not aware of consciously on a daily basis. This information will be used to help you to make positive change. Other than that you will probably feel relaxed (relaxation isn’t necessary however) since we often focus on relaxing as a way to bypass the critical factor.
Can you get stuck in Hypnosis?
No one has ever been stuck in hypnosis. You may feel very relaxed however, and want to enjoy that for a few moments before you emerging.
Is Hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is naturally occurring in all human beings. You won’t believe how many times each of us have been in hypnosis and didn’t even know it.
If hypnosis were not safe you would hear news stories about the terrible things that hypnosis does or is doing to people. No one has ever been harmed by going into the hypnotic state. There are unscrupulous people in every profession so make sure you research your hypnotist before choosing to book a session with him or her.
In addition, hypnosis has been found useful by the American Medical Association as early as 1958 and is well documented as being useful in all sorts of issues such as helping children control epileptic seizures, eliminating pain and skin ailments, overcoming infertility, IBS, controlling or finding the cause of depression, anxiety and bad habits just to name a few.
Why don’t more doctors tell patients about Hypnosis?
Most doctors just don’t think about it because their training is not in this area. As complimentary approaches to health care such as hypnosis have become more understood, Doctors are beginning to discover the many ways that hypnosis helps. Hypnotists get referrals from medical doctors and mental health professionals all the time.
How do you go into Hypnosis?
Hypnotists have been trained in specific techniques for hypnotic inductions which will help you to naturally achieve any level of hypnosis with ease. A professional hypnotist can generally help you achieve a useful hypnotic state in less than 4 minutes.
Can the Hypnotist make me do something I don’t want to do?
No. You are always in control. You will not accept suggestions by a hypnotist that are against your morals, ethics or physically dangerous to yourself. If a hypnotist ever gave you a suggestion that you where morally or ethically apposed to you would simply emerge from hypnosis. If a hypnotist would give you a suggestion that you do not want, you would simply reject it and it would have no affect on you.
Do you black out or pass out or become unconscious when Hypnotized?
No. You will hear everything the hypnotist says and you’ll remember everything. The intent of hypnosis is that you remember everything because your changes will come from insights that you receive during the sessions. You will be conscious, receptive and at times may even have a conversation with the hypnotist during your sessions.
Is there any way I can mess up the Hypnosis session?
Not unless you choose not to follow the instructions given by the hypnotist, or you want to prove you can’t be hypnotized for some reason. Hypnosis can not be achieved against your will. Hypnosis isn’t a fragile state, you can cough, move, scratch an itch, or even speak when in hypnosis. Remember hypnosis is a state of being in control not being controlled. If you find that your mind wanders a bit, don’t worry the subconscious is always listening.
What can I do to help the Hypnotic process?
Simply relax and follow the easy instructions and don’t try to be in hypnosis. Trying to be in hypnosis will put unnecessary stress on you. It is your responsibility to put an effort into making the external changes, which are in line with what you desire to change in your life. Hypnosis is harmonious to any of your efforts. As long as you show up for your sessions, practice the techniques shown by your hypnotist and do any other homework that may be given you will do fine.
